Be Heavenly Minded

Keep Your Mind Fixed on Christ

Isa 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

The only way to live a victorious Christian life is to be continually mindful of God’s mercy, grace, faithfulness, goodness, love, and kindness. God will give us peace of mind as long as we continue to trust in Him. No circumstance will defeat us nor even discourage us as long as we trust in the Lord God Almighty, as long as we are mindful of Him.

Rom 8:5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

When we are being lead by the Spirit we will have our minds set on the things of the Spirit, on living a life that is pleasing to the Lord and doing His will. When we are lead by our flesh we will have our minds set on the desires of our flesh and our flesh does not care to please God.

Rom 8:6-8 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

We cannot accomplish anything, of any value, as long as we have our minds set on the things of the flesh. As long as our minds are set on the things of the flesh our life will be empty, without purpose, and we will not be pleasing to God. The only way to be pleasing to God is to be heavenly minded, by having our minds set on Him, because God made us to know Him, to love Him, and to fellowship with Him.

Matt 22:37-38 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.

The first and greatest of all God’s commandments for us is that we love Him with all of our being, and that cannot be accomplished unless we keep our minds fixed on Him, unless we are always heavenly minded.

Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

We are not supposed to be like the world around us, to think as they do and to behave as they do, with their minds set upon their own desires and pleasures. We are supposed to be different, we are to be transformed, we are to become like Christ, and that can only be accomplished by renewing our minds, by being heavenly minded.

Rom 15:5-6 Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus: That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We are all supposed to have the mind of Christ. Christ came to do His Father’s will; He came to serve and not to be served. Christ humbled Himself and gave Himself completely for us. He had one goal and one purpose, and nothing was able to distract Him from it because He was heavenly minded. We should also be heavenly minded.

Phil 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

We must guard our minds by keeping them fixed on heavenly things; it is the only way to be pleasing to the Lord in all our thoughts. We must not forget, our thoughts will determine our behavior.

Col 3:2-4 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

Since we have new life in Christ we should keep our minds set on the things of heaven and not on the things of earth. Our future is to be with God forever; therefore, we should fix our minds on the things of God. The things of earth are of very little value for the present life and of no value for eternity; therefore, we should not waste our time with them.

Matt 6:19-21 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

It can be said that you will build up treasure in heaven, if you are heavenly minded; and you will build up treasure on earth, if you are earthly minded. The Lord instructs us not to build up treasure on earth where it will loose all its value, but to build up treasure in heaven where it will never loose its value. The more heavenly minded we are the more treasure we will have in heaven for all eternity.

Matt 6:31-33 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Jesus Christ instructed us not to even concern ourselves with the necessary things of this world. He instructed us to seek to do the will of God and to be pleasing to Him, to be heavenly minded and to trust in God for all our needs.

Col 3:16-17 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Being heavenly minded should be our way of life. We should continually be thinking of the word of Christ. We should be teaching others the word of Christ, encouraging them to trust in the Lord, and to live for Him. All the while we should be singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with thankfulness in our hearts to God. God made us in His own image so that we might know Him, love Him, enjoy Him, and live with Him for alleternity; He made us to be heavenly minded.

Col 3:23-24 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

We should be doing all that we do as if we were doing it for the Lord. We should always be mindful of Jesus Christ no mater what we are doing because we are really serving Him at all times. There is no time when we should not be heavenly minded. We should always be heavenly minded, in all that we do, because it is the Lord whom we serve.

The Christians who are the most earthly good are those who are the most heavenly minded. We cannot be too heavenly minded.

Thus says the LORD, “Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice, and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,” declares the LORD.
