Knowing God’s Will for Your Life
God’s will is not secret.
God’s will is found in His word, and it is very clear. There are many bible verses that speak of God’s will; I have included only a small percentage of them in this study. If we want to know God’s will for our lives, we must first do all that His word commands us to do, we must be doers of His word.
John 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
First and foremost, it is the will of God that every one who believes in His Son, Jesus Christ, will be saved. According to God’s will all those who believe in Jesus Christ have eternal life and will be raised up, raptured, at the resurrection.
2 Cor 5:17-19 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
The greatest need of the world is the need to know Jesus Christ. God has given all Christians the ministry of reconciliation. God’s will for all Christians is that they be witnesses for Jesus Christ.
2 Cor 5:20-21 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
God gave His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for us so that He could make us to be righteous as He is righteous. God’s will for all Christians is that we be righteous, and that we be ambassadors for Christ so that others will be saved through our testimony. The greatest testimony we have is a righteous life; therefore, it can be said that it is God’s will for us to live righteously in Christ.
John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
God’s commandment is His will for every Christian. It is very clear, it is God’s will that we love one another with an unconditional love.
1Thes 4:9 But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.
God teaches us to love one another. If we want to do the will of God, we must respond to His teaching and love one another. We will never realize the will of God in our lives, if we do not love others.
1 Cor 1:10
Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
The mind of Christ was to love others by serving them and giving Himself for them. It is God’s will that we all be united with the same mind, the mind of Christ.
1Thes 4:11-12 And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.
It is God’s will that we live a quiet life, we are not to be stirring up strife within the Church. It is God’s will that we attend to our own business; we are not to be running others people’s lives. It is God’s will that we work with our hands; we are to work at a job to earn a living, and not to live off others. It is God’s will for Christians to live a quiet life, to mind our own business, and to work with our hands so that we will have all we need in this world. Most people are not called to be pastors, teachers, missionaries, or other full time Christian ministries. We are to be full time Christians, ambassadors for Christ, where we live and where we work.
1 Cor 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
God bought us, redeemed us, with the blood of Christ. We were slaves of sin and dead in our sin, but now we are set free from sin and are alive unto God. Therefore, we should be willing to surrender our lives to the Lord, without any restrictions.
Rom 6:12-13 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
God has delivered us from sin and death, He has given us new life; therefore, we should stop sinning and live righteously in Christ. It is God’s will that we stop sinning and that we give ourselves to Him as instruments of righteousness.
2 Cor 5:14-15 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.
Because Jesus Christ loved us so much that He gave His life for us, for the forgiveness of our sins, we should live our lives for Him. The love of Christ for us compels us to do His will, and His will is that we give ourselves to Him.
1Thes 4:3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: 1Thes 4:7 For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.
God’s will for us is that we live a holy life.
Rom 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Because of God’s mercies toward us, we should be willing to surrender our lives to Him, and to live a holy life, the only life that is acceptable to Him. It is not unreasonable for God to expect so much from us because He has been so merciful to us and has given so much for us.
The mercies of God have proven His love for you. The will of God is always good for you, acceptable by you, and perfect for you because God loves you with a perfect love.
There are three steps to knowing the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God.
First - Surrender yourself to God as a living sacrifice, be obedient to do all the known will of God, be a doer of His word.
Second - Stop being conformed to the world, stop being like the world, be like Christ as best as you know how.
Third - Be transformed by the renewing of your mind, let your mind dwell on Christ and the word of God, feed your mind on the word of God.
If you do these things you will prove the will of God, you will know for certain what His will is for your life, and you will find it to be good, acceptable, and perfect.
Heb 13:20-21 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever.
Phil 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Thus says the LORD, “Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice, and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,” declares the LORD.
