DIVINATION
Divination is the practice of trying to tell the future, or the revelation of some secret knowledge. Divination is practiced by those who have learned to exercise demonic power; whereby, they receive information from demons. Thereby, they are able to deceive those who look to them for secret knowledge. Divination is practiced by fortunetellers, palm readers, and the like.Deut 18:10-12 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
The pagans who lived in the land of Canaan were driven out of the land because they practiced divination and other detestable things. The practice of divination, in any form, is an abomination to the Lord.
Jer 29:8-9 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed. For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith the LORD.
False prophets were associated with diviners because they did not speak the truth. They were not sent from God, they did not speak for God, and they did not speak the word of God.
Ezek 22:28 And her prophets have daubed them with untempered morter, seeing vanity, and divining lies unto them, saying, Thus saith the Lord GOD, when the LORD hath not spoken.
The devil is a liar and the father of liars (Jn.8:44). He tries to deceive many by means of divination. Those who practice divination often claim to speak for God, but they are not from God, they are from the devil. Seeking knowledge of the future, from any source other than the word of God, is an abomination to God.
The practice of divination is the act of seeking secret information from a demon. Furthermore,demons always lead people into idolatry.
THE WORD OF GOD
The Bible is the word of God. It is given to us from God; and it contains all the knowledge God desires mankind to know. We must look to the word of God, and only to the word of God, to obtain knowledge of the future.
Ps 119:89 For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.
The word of God is sure and it will never change.
Ps 119:105 Thy word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path.
The word of God gives us all the guidance we need in life.
Ps 119:160 Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.
The entire word of God is true, and it will remain true forever.
Prov 30:5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
The word of God has been proven to be accurate and true, without error; we can depend upon it.
Matt 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
The word of God is our spiritual food; it gives life to our spirits, as we feed upon it.
Rom 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
The word of God produces faith in God, as we receive it with faith.
Eph 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
The word of God is our weapon against all that is ungodly. We must use it to confront all falsehood and every attack of the devil.
Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
The word of God gives us understanding of all truth and of everything that is false. Every lie is exposed by the word of God.
2 Pet 1:19-21 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
The Bible, the word of God, came to us through the prophets of God. The true prophets of God wrote the word of God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit of God. The Bible is the only true revelation of God to mankind; all other revelations, spoken by mankind, are not from God. Therefore, God is totally opposed to all forms of divination. Divination is a sin that God finds to be especially contemptible because it is a counterfeit of the true word of God.
Deut 29:29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
God has revealed all that He wants us to know through His word, the bible. The Lord knows the future and He even has the future planned out to the last detail. The Lord has given us all the information He wants us to know about the future. The things keep secret from us are impossible for us to know, and we should not seek to know them.
