We Can Depend Upon the Lord to Provide for Us

Ps 37:3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
The Lord’s word is His promise; we can depend on the Lord to be faithful to His word. His word tells us that we will be fed if we trust in Him and do good. This is a principle truth that we can depend on and live by, this year, next year, and forever.

Prov 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

The word of God instructs us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts; that means we are to fully rest in Him without any doubting. The word of God also instructs us not to depend upon our own understanding; that means we are to trust in the Lord at all times even when we do not understand what He is doing or why we are experiencing trying circumstances. The word of God also instructs us to acknowledge Him in all our ways; that means we are to recognize that He is in control of every circumstance, of everything we go through. When we trust in Him and acknowledge Him even when we do not understand what is happening or why, He will direct our paths; that means He will take control of our lives and He will care for us.

Prov 30:5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

Every word of God is totally and completely dependable; He protects all those who trust in Him.

1 Tim 6:17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

We must not trust in the world’s riches no matter how much we may have. Money and things can lose their value over night, they are uncertain at best. Saving and stockpiling money and goods is for unbelievers, not Christians. Christians are instructed to trust in the living God who richly supplies us with all we need and more.

Ps 127:1 Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

All our efforts to protect ourselves are worthless if the Lord is not protecting us. That does not mean we should not try to provide for ourselves or protect ourselves, but we are to depend upon the Lord and not upon ourselves or upon what we have. If the Lord is on our side, we have nothing to fear, but if the Lord is not on our side we have everything to fear and we will never be able to do enough to protect ourselves.

Matt 6:24-26 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

If we believe in Jesus Christ, we are children of God and our Father in heaven will care for us and He will meet our every need. The Lord instructed us not to be concerned about food and drink and clothing: the most basic essential things of life. The Lord loves us and He will care for us if we live for Him and not for this world. That does not mean we should not work and provide for ourselves and others, but we must set everything in its proper priority. We must not place great value upon the things of this world, even the essential things.

Matt 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

The Lord Jesus Christ instructs us to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; that means we are to give priority to do God’s will and to be pleasing to Him. His word is His promise; if we seek to do His will and to be pleasing to Him above all else, He will meet our every need.

Matt 6:34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

The Lord instructs us not to worry about tomorrow. The Lord will care for us tomorrow just as He did today, yesterday, and the day before that. Just as the Lord has always cared for us, He always will.
No one knows what the future holds but we know who holds the future.

Thus says the LORD, “Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice, and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,” declares the LORD.
