Jesus Did Not Suffer In Hell

Salvation Was Completed On The Cross

John 19:28-30 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

When Jesus said it is finished, and gave up His spirit, He completed the work of redemption on our behalf. He shed His blood and He died for us. His sacrifice on the cross was all that was necessary for the forgiveness of our sins.

Rom 5:8-9 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
God is no longer angry at us if we believe in Jesus Christ because Jesus shed His blood and died in our place. The penalty for sin is death and He paid that penalty for us.

Eph 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

The shed blood of Jesus Christ has made redemption for us, and as a result we have forgiveness of all our sins if we only believe in Him.

Col 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

All of creation is made right with God through the blood of the cross. The blood that Jesus shed on the cross has made full and complete redemption for all of creation.

Heb 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

By the shed blood of Jesus Christ we have been redeemed, have been made right with God, for all eternity. No other sacrifice will ever be required.

1 Pet 1:18-19 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

Jesus Christ was offered as a sacrificial lamb on our behalf. We were redeemed by His shed blood.
Rev 5:9-10 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

Jesus Christ went to the cross and gave His life, so that He could redeem us by His blood. There was no other way for us to be saved and there is nothing more that can be done to add to our salvation. We are completely saved through the one and only sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ Went To Paradise When He Died

Luke 23:39-43 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Jesus never lied, He meant what He said; He told the criminal on the cross that he would be with Him in paradise that very same day.

Matt 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Paradise was a place in the heart of the earth.

Luke 16:19-31 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

When the poor man died he went to a place called Abraham’s bosom, and when the rich man died he went to a place called hell, in the King James bible. The poor man was in paradise, and the rich man was in a place of torment. When Jesus died He went to paradise, to Abraham’s bosom, the same place the poor man went; He did not go to the place of torment. Since Jesus completed the work of redemption on the cross, He did not need to go to hell to suffer for our sins.

1 Pet 3:18-20 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

After Jesus completed the work of our redemption on the cross, His Spirit went into the place where all the Old Testament believers were being kept as prisoners, a place known as Abraham’s bosom, or paradise, in the heart of the earth.

Since all Old Testament saints were sinners, which sometime were disobedient to God, God could not allow any of them into heaven until the penalty for all their sins was paid. When Jesus died He went into the place where the spirits of all pre-cross believers were being kept imprisoned and He preached the message of redemption to them, the message they had been waiting so long to hear.

Eph 4:8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.

When Jesus rose from the grave, He was able to lead all the pre-cross believers out of their prison because He had paid the penalty for all their sins. The spirits of all believers now go directly into the presence of God when their bodies die; there is no longer a paradise in the heart of the earth.

Thus says the LORD, “Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice, and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,” declares the LORD.
